Job Description:
The Hematology and Urinalysis Supervisor position is a critical part of providing veterinarians with accurate information to diagnose and treat patients. They will be involved in many processes and have tremendous opportunity to gain experience in a close team environment. A strong candidate will have opportunities to progress their career within the laboratory or in other areas of this high-growth organization. They must be flexible in dealing with unpredictable workloads and work well under pressure to assist in the completion of daily assignments while maintaining a positive attitude. This is a highly collaborative, team-based environment. In this role you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Hematology and Urinalysis department.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
· Monitor and maintain the Safety Program.
· Develop and perform competency evaluations for the department.
· Hire employees as needed.
· Assist with improving efficiencies in the department.
· Work with Procurement to ensure proper inventory levels based on sample volume.
· Troubleshoot and provide technical support for Advia’s and any other equipment in the department.
· Perform lot to lot comparisons on critical reagents.
· Help with method validations for new methodologies as needed.
· Draft and update SOPs as needed.
· Take part in employee development programs, both for yourself and your direct reports.
· Process specimens according to established protocols.
· Perform microscopic review of CBC samples, urine sediments, and fecal flotations (duties may require more effort in one of these provided areas).
· Perform routine testing meeting quality expectations and turnaround time.
· Identify issues and seek guidance for resolution as needed.
· Participate in laboratory quality control processes and communicate observations to lab management as needed.
· Perform routine start-up and calibrations on laboratory analyzers (e.g., ADVIA 2120i, Beckman chemistry analyzers).
· Assist with daily lab tasks and cleaning that is necessary for laboratory operations.
· Perform data entry as needed.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
· If terminal degree is an Associate’s degree in a science related field, at least 3 years of laboratory experience.
· If terminal degree is a Bachelor’s degree, at least 2 years of laboratory experience.

· Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time at benches, workstations, or while using laboratory equipment.
· Ability to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 20 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience performing human or veterinary diagnostics or research is preferred.
· Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
· Certification as a Medical Technologist is preferred.
· Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems and following a quality assurance program is preferred.
